Actron CP9145 AutoScanner Diagnostic Code Scanner for OBDII (Post-1996) Vehicles

Please read ALL details before purchasing.

Is your car's check engine light on? If it is, your car is trying to tell you something and the Actron CP9145 Super AutoScanner Diagnostic Code Scanner speaks its language. Use this scanner to unlock the information stored in your car's computer. Whenever your check engine light is on, the device can pinpoint the problem so you can fix it fast and be on your way.

The Actron CP9145 easily scans and retrieves DTCs.

The user interface is designed for ease of use and quick control of scanning functions.

Turn off that distracting "check engine" light.
The scanner allows you to easily retrieve, read, and erase OBD II trouble codes, as well as display and read live vehicle data for a faster diagnosis. With optional cables, you can also retrieve OBD I codes and live data for 1984-95 Ford and GM models, and 1989-95 Chrysler models. This sophisticated, yet extremely user-friendly tool includes the CP9145 base unit and can be used on OBD II compliant cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. from 1996 to present. Plus, the tool is fully upgradeable, accommodating future vehicles.

The CP9145 is built tough for both shop and road test use. It also features a large, easy-to-read liquid crystal display that shows the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their definitions. And although you still have to fix the problem, the scanner will deactivate the "check engine" light on your dash so you'll no longer be distracted while you drive. The scanner is easy to connect to your vehicle, and a user friendly menu provides a variety of information in a snap, including live engine data parameters (PIDs). Built-in help screens help you interpret the data, and you can view freeze frame data, which provides a "snapshot" of the vehicle's operating conditions at the time of the fault. Meanwhile, an internal 9-volt battery stores the latest test results for later review.

Use the Monitor Status and I/M readiness (Inspection/Maintenance) function to determine if your vehicle is ready for an emissions test. I/M Readiness is an excellent function to use prior to having a vehicle inspected for compliance with a state emissions program, so you'll have a good idea if your vehicle will pass the standards.

Another important thing to remember is that all emission testing facilities will fail a vehicle that has the "check engine" light illuminated at the time of the test--even if it is only lit to remind you of a past-due oil change or 60,000-mile tune-up. With this scanner, you can shut off the check engine light and pass the emissions test on your terms.

The menu also alerts you of any pending DTCs and reads the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) status. By reading the MIL status the scanner gives insight into what might cause your "check engine" light to turn on in the near future. In this way, the scanner also provides some preventive measures to help you keep a close eye on your vehicle's systems.

The scanner comes with CD software that contains 5,000 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and their descriptions.

What's in the Box

This is an inexpensive scanner that does it all. It is easy to use. If you are a do it yourselfer this is a must have. If you take your car to the shop it is nice to know what the problem is before you get there so you don't get ripped off by an unscrupulous repair mechanic. Don't order the extended cable as the unit already comes with one.

I have used this scanner for a 98 town and country and it works great. It has saved me a trip to the dealership for an egr valve. I feel like I can work on cars again!

I purchased this item because I was assuming I could connect the scanner to my PC via USB. According to the user's manual, there is an optional USB cable, but I can't find it anywhere. Actron should update the information they post, so customers don't get disappointed like me.

Purchased this scanner 2 months ago and it's use has been problematic at best. As advertised it's supposed to be able to interface with EEC, ALDL, ODB-1, ODB-2 and be CAN upgradeable. In general use it doesn't even see EEC, I don't own a GM vehicle so I can't test ALDL, ODB works but is sometimes sketchy and the upgrade to CAN was removed off the market I'm guessing a minimum of 6 months ago. BTW to top everything off the online update claim is a complete joke, those have been pulled off the web site and from other's claims utilize an archaic 16-bit application, not to mention a serial cable that is also no longer offered. Due to this experience I have severe doubts in purchasing any Actron products ever again. <br /> <br />

First, I want to address the issues from the complainers: <br /> <br />For the reviewer that complained the unit was too big - You do realize this unit is larger because it has a fuller display and gives you more information than those tiny handheld units? <br /> <br />For the reviewer that stated about the cord being short - These were designed with the professional mechanic in mind. The same people who usually have the car/truck on a lift. At that height, the area where the OBDII connector is (which is usually under the dashboard near the drivers knees) this puts it at the right height. <br /> <br />For the reviewer that said they wished there was a cheaper option for the OBDI vehicles - You do realize that most of the cars before OBDII can be read with an ignition key sequence, or for the most part, with a jumper wire or paper clip? I have done this for years. That is all the OBDI kits do. The create a "jumper wire" between these 2 points to cause the engine light to flash to get your codes. <br /> <br />For the reviewer that stated that it does not show live data - Are you sure you know what you are looking for? Or are you trying to describe something different. It has the live data and freeze frame data. With the car running, it shows current voltages, temperatures, RPM's, etc. <br /> <br />If you are looking to purchase this, but are unsure, don't let the few negative reviewers steer you away. This is a capable product in the hands of someone who has basic mechanical knowledge. It is going to read the computers codes and give them to you. It is your responsibility to ake that information and diagnose your problem. The unit does exactly what it advertises it does, and it dies it very well. This is actually my second one I bought. I loaned my first one out, and never got it back.
I bought this to find out what codes were coming up do to a check engine light. Worked very well and has been very useful since, if your into do it yourself car repair. The biggest benefit is reading the codes, clearing the codes and turning off the check engine light.

I am so happy with this Actron CP9145 Scanner! I used it to properly diagnose and repair my son-in-law's Ford Focus the first day I tried it. It was fast and easy!!!!!

Ok... well... I finally got my scan tool in the mail and I was all excited to use it. I mainly bought the unit to assist me in diagnosis and LIVE PARAMETER readings, which it did none of. I went through the horrible written manual and it mentions in there "Field Service", which is what Actron calls their LIVE PARAMETER readings. I start reading the instructions to use this feature and all was good. I plug it in, go through the instructions just to find out that the unit itself DOES NOT HAVE THE "FIELD SERVICE" option!!!!!!!!... so that means no live parameter reading at all, which greatly disappoints me. I will be sending this unit back.

This product is very easy to use. Very satisfied with this product. The only negative thing about this product so far is the cord it comes with is way too short needs to be longer. Not something you have to pay extra for as an option.

I purchased this based upon the add that it's for vehicles 1996 and newer. It(the add) fails to mention this is probably an older scanner that only has vehicles made to and including 2003. I have a 2005 Jeep and the engine wasn't made until then. There are scanners that can be undated and that's why I had to return it.

We had a warning light that kept coming on in our vehicle and as a result we failed inspection. We bought this, hooked it up to the vehicle and found out what the code meant. Looked it up online and knew exactly what was wrong with the vehicle. With the help of the Chilton's manual, fixed the vehicle with a part that cost $7. Owning this device prevented us from having to go to the shop, having them put the same equipment on the vehicle and charging us $100 to tell us the same thing we found out. We've used this numerous times for ourselves and family & friends. Saving everyone a ton of money. It's paid for itself tenfold.

The scanner was shipped immediately and arrived when expected. The manual was precise and easy to understand. While a more advanced scanner may be appreciated by some, this one provides more than enough information for the weekend mechanic to keep them busy.
